about us
Hopes uganda was founded by Babi Rogers in 2016 and registered in 2017 as a community-based organization. Our registration number is CBO/0341 in Eastern Uganda Mbale City. the organization started with 35 children now is raising 65 children with 23 teenage mothers. At Hopes Uganda, we believe that children are the very essence of the future. Who is tomorrow is essentially the outcome of how they are raised and nurtured today. as the leading organization in Mbale city, we go above and beyond to provide our children an empowering environment where they can fully embrace their identity and gain all skills they need to be leaders of tomorrow. Our goal is to shape the way they live their lives the fundamental of social responsibility, healthy living, and cultural acceptance.
MISSION
To mainstream orphans, semi orphans, street children, and teenage mothers by providing care and protection through shelter food and education services.
VISION
To create an internationally recognized living center for the children that is highly known for its services in protecting the children.
OUR WORKS
Go Back to School CampaignThe go back to school campaign for 65 children. We are an organization that is dedicated towards eliminating of street children orphans semi orphan by providing education services. Education is, we believe the most effective way we can help children and their families to escape from the cycle of poverty.
Our mission is to enable disadvantaged children to reach their full potential by receiving a quality education.
Formal Vocational TrainingChildren who complete primary seven and senior four but do not qualify to join the next class, are encouraged to join formal vocational training institutes in order to acquire professional skills and certificates. The trainees are supported by HOPES UGANDA with training costs and materials. Trainees who finish the program are given startup tool sets to assist them in starting their own enterprises or finding work. For all categories of education, regular school monitoring visits to check on the progress of the students are done to ensure that our children acquire the necessary skills to support their self dependency in the futureOlder street children who cannot attend formal school are encouraged to train in different skills of their choice. These youths are linked with skilled workmen in the community who train them hands-on while at their places of work. Currently various children are training in skills such as Hair dressing, carpentry, Mechanics, Catering, Cobbling, Barbering, tailoring and garment design, metal fabrication and building and construction. HOPES UGANDA pays for training fees and tools. Start up tools are provided at the end of every training.
A WELL/ BOREHORE
We used to walk an eight-hour round trip for water every day to reach the closest river in Namatala community and our children used to have less time to play and to run to their schools. Since the distance was far every child would collect five(5) liters of water daily that couldn't even be enough for them. Even if the river water looked clean but it was always contaminated by people grazing and those that dumped there rubbish, this exposed our children to diseases like Typhoid, Diohera, and skin rash.
Many people in Uganda don't have access to clean drinking water. In the end of december 2023 we finished building our borehole well, with the help of NATALIE GOLD and her husband. More than 200 people around our community now have access to clean drinking water. Our well works with a pump and is built in a way that it is protected from any possible contamination. We thank NATALIE GOLD who supported this project and made this success possible.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Hopes Uganda provides for the basic needs for all the 65 children(food and shelter) and the ongoing forward, a school for individuals children. In the past, the program was tailored for each child’s changing needs, including offering vocational training for the older children. As Hopes Uganda moves forward the focus will increasingly be on the young children, even those in kindergarten as well as children with disabilities, 90% of whom are not receiving education of any kind. The need for street children to be at school is just like that of all children, therefore, we have organized, the BACK TO SCHOOL program to enable these children to acquire formal education. Our goal is to have this in place by mid-January when schools are reopened.By providing scholarships, Hopes Uganda reduces the cost of education to families with many children enabling parents to send their children to school. Education will enhance their ability to operate in today's society. Our estimated budget
USD8100 represents the annual cost for 3 semesters per year.Donors can provide support in three ways.USD$45 per child/semester- 3 payments
USD$45 per child 45x3 semesters $135year 1 payment
USD$135 per child a year 120x60 children (USD$8100)Hopes Uganda was able to raise money for the scholastic material as schools had opened up, every child who is on this program was able to receive a school bag, school uniform, black shoes, pens and pencil plus a dozen of books. Now our balance to fully clear this year is USD$6000
We are requesting support for our children to stay in school. We are also planning to build a rain harvesting system which offers more regenerative solution for the need of water on dry seasons. this one only requires us to have a big water tank of about 10,000 litres to start harvesting water that will help us to have much water for use. The budget for tha water havesting is $3600.BUILDING AN ORPHANAGE
We already own enough land, have two houses and have access to clean drinking water. Next up we need better living conditions for our children. That means renovating the houses and providing children with proper beds, mattresses, mosquito nets and storing place for their personal belongings. We need to create a classroom with books and boards to help them study and hopefully continue with making it look like more of a home full of hope and joy, music and curiosity. We also need to build a kitchen that would survive the rain season and allow them to cook with better conditions. We need to create toilets with better hygiene and create washing conditions for the children. For that we want to build a rain harvesting system for our house and while already finding sustainable solutions – also add some solar panels! Our estimated budgetRenovating the houses and building a kitchen will cost somewhere around 10 000$ . Providing the essential furniture and things needed for the orphanage work will cost around 4000$. Later we would also like to add a rain harvesting system and solar panels to our houses.Your help will be greatly appreciated.
